HP Solution Center gets the names displayed on the tabs from a key in the registry,

The Friendly name is controlled by a registry key.....

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Hewlett-Packard\DigitalI… Color LaserJet 2840 Series PLC 6\DeviceInstance\"The Instance Number"\Strings

The data field is called "FriendlyName" if it is blank you will get $FriendlyName$ displayed.

Each Instance should be named different, and substitute the printer you have in place of my HP 2840 in registry key.

Chances are you will have two folders with number names; one of the folders (most likely the first one) will have nothing in it. The second folder will have the name of the printer ECT in it. Delete the first folder. (Make sure to export a backup first incase it’s the wrong folder)
Once you have deleted it when you open solution center the $friendlyname$ scanner should be gone.

I have done this it workds
A+
