Error: "You cannot print directly to the QuickBooks PDF Converter. Try using QuickBooks Save as PDF menu option."

  What is happening
When printing or e-mailing from QuickBooks, the following error occurs:

You cannot print directly to the QuickBooks PDF Converter. Try using QuickBooks Save as PDF menu option.

Why is this happening
This issue occurs if:

The QuickBooks PDF Converter is marked as the default printer.
The QuickBooks PDF Converter is damaged.
The QuickBooks printing file qbprint.qbp is damaged.

How to fix the problem
To resolve the issue:

Mark another printer as the default printer.
Delete and reinstall the QuickBooks PDF Converter.
Delete the qbprint.qbp file and make QuickBooks recreate it from default data.

Detailed Instructions
To reset the default printer:

Click on File > Exit to close QuickBooks.
Click the Microsoft Windows Start button and select Settings > Printers and Faxes.
Right-click the correct printer and select Set as Default Printer.
To delete and reinstall the QuickBooks PDF Converter:

Click on File > Exit to close QuickBooks.
Click the Microsoft Windows Start button and select Settings > Printers and Faxes.
In the Name column, right-click the QuickBooks PDF Converter and select Delete.
Click Yes to confirm that you want to delete the printer driver and restart the computer.
Open QuickBooks.
Select the Reports menu, and open any report (for example, Company & Financial > Profit & Loss Standard).
Click the Email button, and then select Send report as PDF. QuickBooks automatically reinstalls the PDF printer driver.
Cancel the email and close the report.
To rename the qbprint file, follow the instructions in Repairing damaged printer settings.Note: For QuickBooks 2007 and later, the qbprint file can be found in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Intuit\QuickBooks [Version].

If this solution does not resolve the issue, you can read discussions and post messages and questions relating to your issue on the Intuit QuickBooks Community site. You can also review other available QuickBooks support options for additional guidance.
